Cavasback; My first wood carving. I only used a pocket knife (no power tools). I started out with a block of wood, on the top of the block I drew out the top view and on the side, the side view. After drawing the top and side I cut the wood away on the out side of the line. After that I shape out the remaining piece. Then comes the fun part is adding or taking away the detail. After that I apply a sealer and paint the decoy. This decoy took over a year to carve. I now use power tools along with hand tools( It saves a lot of time) I still enjoy adding the fine details with a knife.
